Conductor, Insulator, Semiconductor | Semiconductor Explained | Part - 02 (Bengali Version)

Conductor: Forbidden energy gap of a conductor is too low.Thats why valence electron need a tiny energy to get free from valence band..Specific resistance of a conductor is 1x10^-8 Ωm ~ 0

Insulator: It's totally opposite from conductor. So valence electron need large amount of energy to free from valence band..This energy value around 6ev to 15ev.Resistivity of a insulator is 1x1012Ωm.

Semiconductor: It's not like conductor or not like insultor. It has some conditions to be semiconductor.

1. Resistivity 1x10-4 Ω m.
2. Conductivity of semiconductor will increase by mixing specific impurities. It Called "Doping"
3. Heat can increase conductivity.
4. Valence electron need 1ev or few less energy to free from valence band but not more than 1ev.
